From July 1st, 2006 the Green Certificate Market in Bulgaria is already regulated. At this moment, just 7% of the electricity is generated from renewable energy sources.

In the last few months the Bulgarian Energy Market is changing very fast. Since May 2006 there are licensed 12 trade operators and 5 of them are already operating on the free market.
In the meantime, the Privatisation Agency is taking care of the privatization of a lot of power plants, previously property of the National Electricity Company (NEK).
The State Water and Energy Regulatory Commission is regulating the tariffs of energy.

New renewable power plants will be build in the next few years. Bulgaria has water, wind, solar, biomass and geothermal resources to use for generation of energy.
